Clarification Regarding Recent Planning Post

05/11/2026

The Parish Council wishes to clarify the intention behind its recent communication relating to large scale development proposals in Longwick.

The Council recognises and appreciates the contribution that all residents make to village life, including those who have moved into Longwick in recent years. Nothing in the post was intended to suggest that residents living in newer homes are unwelcome.

The comments made were directed solely at the planning impact of major development proposals, particularly the speculative submission for around 900 homes. Concerns raised by the Council relate to infrastructure capacity, not to the people who live in the homes. Large developments often come with assurances that supporting infrastructure will follow — such as improvements to roads, drainage, utilities, school capacity and wider local services. However, experience shows that these benefits do not always materialise as anticipated, and the cumulative pressure on local infrastructure can be significant.

The Council’s position remains focused on ensuring that any future development is appropriate, sustainable and supported by the necessary infrastructure to protect the quality of life of all residents.

We hope this clarification is helpful, but if you have any concerns or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Clerk.
