RESPONSE UNDER REGULATION 19 – Buckinghamshire Council Draft Local Plan

Please be advised that on 3rd September Longwick-cum-Ilmer parish council met to discuss their response to the Buckinghamshire Local Plan Regulation 19.

This Council meeting followed a Public Meeting held on 12th August where local residents were able share their views and understand the Regulation 19 process and how to submit their comment.

The outcome of the Council meeting was that Longwick-cum-Ilmer parish Council support the Buckinghamshire Local Plan and consider that its overall strategy provides an appropriate and balanced framework for the future development of both our Parish and the County.

In addition the Plan provides an important opportunity to meet the identified housing and employment needs, overall, within the County, where greater density is available based on full utilisation of existing services, utilities and general infrastructure. We particularly support the provision for no additional planned development within the boundaries of Longwick village during the plan period, whilst being subject to the ongoing review of our Neighbourhood Plan.

Pertinent comment below:

Longwick has accepted more than the “planned growth” set during the previous plan, and has doubled in size and population. This has shown now that the current infrastructure is overly stretched and therefore unable to accept any further growth during the new plan period.

Additionally the community needs time to adjust to the recent developments that were forced upon us at a rate where identified infrastructure and social improvements have not kept pace with the developments.

Therefore, in accord with the proposed Bucks Local Plan (Reg.19) ,we particularly support the emphasis on sustainable development, the provision of appropriate infrastructure alongside new development, and the need to ensure that growth contributes positively to existing communities both in amenity and social terms.

Furthermore, we support the Buckinghamshire plan to protect the character of Buckinghamshire, its valued countryside, heritage and the environment.

Finally, we consider that the Plan represents a sound basis for managing future growth in a planned and coordinated manner and should therefore be supported through the Regulation 19 examination process.
